About Lenovo and Yuwa
Society teaches girls to fit in. YUWA coaches girls to stand out. Franz Gastler co-founded YUWA in 2009, in Hutup village, near Ranchi, Jharkhand. It is now one of the largest girls' football programs in India. Through sports and education, the NGO helps tribal girls reclaim their future. In Jharkhand, one of the poorest, least literate, and most lawless territories of India, the YUWA girls take on the toughest challenges with a ball at their feet, and a smile on their lips - fearless in the face of failure. Learning from every loss, on the field and off, adapting to fight better in the next battle.
The Lenovo YUWA partnership started 2 years ago with the USA Cup and continues to grow. This year, the goal is to help the YUWA girls to raise funds to build their school by showcasing their exploits at the Donosti Cup in Spain.
'Girls playing football' is symbolic of every girl in India taking control of her destiny. Just as the outcome (of any game) is uncertain, so it is with efforts you take in life.
Learning from your failures and moving ahead to succeed is the smarter way. NOT just relentless pursuit, but learning and adapting for the next move.
